Way Outside the BOX

Just listened to a RadioGirl podcast featuring Lee Abrams. Lee talked about a lot of stuff and the take away for me was this. Traditional media is unwilling to move from the model everyone is comfortable with. A better assessment might be traditional media does not know how to monetize the paradigm shift.

When I speak to Radio Program Directors about changing how they think of their medium, I sometimes get the troubling "deer in the headlights" look. Our medium is no longer a push medium but needs desperately to become a "pull" medium. Users pull content they find interesting and consume it on their own schedules. Website development is critical yet many radio station operators are woefully behind not only in figuring out the revenue aspects but also how to invest monies wisely to create a superior product that users will "want" to pull from. Our content must be multimedia and include visuals-it's NOT about just the music anymore...users demand an interactive media experience and we better figure out how we are going to deliver this or face a quick and painful death.

IDEAS?

Yeah, tough isn't it?!

But NOT impossible.
